Conrad Hilton Resort, Rongali Island,
Design, Manufacture & Installation
of a PVC tensile membrane roof canopy and roller screens (13m x 18m)
The project brief was to design and manufacture a combined shade canopy and roller screens for a new beach bar being constructed at one of the Maldives most prestigious resorts.
The canopy was installed over a new outdoor bar in the middle of a pure sandy beach exposed to all the elements and everything for this project had to be designed with this constraint in mind. In the addition the canopy had to able to withstand cyclonic wind forces. The canopy was to be an architectural feature of the resort the shape and overall configuration of the membrane was the subject of intense scrutiny by the resort’s architect and owner.
Baytex's final canopy gave the impression of floating over the sand with the only support being two centre poles angled over the bar. The canopy was tensioned out to concrete ‘deadmen’ positioned some way from the edge of the canopy to eliminate any impression of supporting side poles.
Fabrication was very simple and installation went without a hitch with the canopy tensioning out perfectly to create a very desirable, wrinkle free membrane cover.
‘Thank you so much, this is exactly how I envisioned it’.
