Project Description
The Whangarei Deep Sea Anglers Club approached us for a replacement canopy over their decking area, which required protection from the elements. The club had previously purchased a second-hand canvas tent roof 25 years prior, but it had always been ill-fitting and was now deemed beyond repair. Their request was initially for a design similar to the previous canopy; however, we proposed a fresh, nautical design using PVC that would perfectly fit the existing building and support poles, all at the same price point. While there would be an additional cost for design and installation, the club would benefit from a bespoke, tailored solution.
Project Highlights
Unique Aspects
This canopy project is inspired by a Hampton design with unique detailing, making it an ideal complement to its nautical location. The structure was carefully designed to connect to existing poles and accommodate the multi-gabled roofline of the clubhouse building behind.
To enhance natural light, clear PVC infill panels were incorporated along the multi-gabled roofline. We prioritised maintenance and usability, ensuring that the structure could be easily managed by volunteers, allowing for simple packing away at the end of each game fishing season. Training sessions were provided to ensure proper installation and removal.
Project Summary
The beautifully designed all-weather canopy occupies just over 182 sqm and utilises lightweight, high-strength Serge Ferrari 502 PVC. Based on our Hampton pole tent design, the unique detailing of the canopy enhances its visual appeal in this nautical setting. The new structure seamlessly integrates with the existing building, while the clear infill panels above the multi-gable roof flood the space with natural light. This canopy now stands as a striking feature of the marina, offering all-weather coverage for events while showcasing functional elegance.
