Client: | Christchurch Stadium Trust, Christchurch, New Zealand |
Completion Date: | March 2012 |
Project Description: | Design, Manufacture & Installation of a PVC Vomitory Ribbons, Main Ticket Gate & Gate Signage, Stand Section Signage & Players' Tunnel |
Project Brief:
The Baytex team were once again able to showcase their Design and PVC Fabrication flair with the construction of the new AMI Christchurch Stadium. Operating under the main contractors, Hawkins Construction, Baytex was commissioned to complete the Players Tunnel, Ticket Entry Canopies A & B and Signage, Stand Vomitory Signage and, most stunningly, the Vomitorium Ribbons which wrapped around each grand stand acting as one of the stadium’s key aesthetics whilst complementing the overall structural integrity of the stands.
The main challenge of this project was to keep the the Vomitory Ribbons tensioned across the many varied angles and to keep the attachments hidden, to maintain the desired sleek and flowing 'ribbon' effect. This effect is complemented by the eye-catching poppy colored Ferrari Soltis 96 Fabric.
The Christchurch Stadium was built in under 100 days and has brought back the ability for the Christchurch to host large events once again. The stadium was opened on the 24th of March 2012 with a sell-out crowd enjoying watching the first Crusaders’ rugby game in Christchurch since the earthquakes of 2010/11. The stadium will host community and cultural events, concerts as well as rugby league, football and rugby union matches.
